With martial arts and self-defense becoming more mainstream over the last several years, there are no shortage of dojos, gyms, and classrooms taught by self-proclaimed “experts” in the Fayetteville area. Martial Arts of NC is the real deal. Michael Donvito and the other instructors stand apart from the rest due to their professionalism, patience, and high level of expertise. It is worth noting that Michael, as a 5th degree black belt under the renowned Carlos Machado, is one of the highest practitioners of BJJ in the state. Unlike most dojos, where the classes are primarily taught by a brown belt, Michael personally leads all of the BJJ and self-defense classes. Through Martial Arts of NC, I have learned more about humility, discipline, and perseverance than in my 5 years of active military service, and I would recommend it to anyone who values the same. Learn to save your own life.”

post2 “Martial Arts of NC has been the best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gym I have ever walked into. And it’s not even close. I’ve trained at a few gyms back on the west coast as well as a few on Fort Bragg (which, keep in mind are free to train at), but the gap in quality is so vast that there is no comparison. Head coach Michael Donvito is not only one of, if not the best BJJ practitioner in the state, but he is also the best teacher in the state. And for anyone who has done BJJ for a while, you know those are two very different skills. Every time you walk in, its like you are getting a private one-on-one with a 5th degree black belt under Carlos Machado. Not only do you get superior coaching in BJJ, but the self defense program is also top notch and doesn’t include any nonsense you see in other gyms that builds false confidence and would get you badly hurt when you need those skills the most. The greatest part of all of this, as corny as it sounds, is that I am seeing lessons here that apply far beyond a weeknight’s martial arts practice and I have noticed over time that showing up here consistently has been the single greatest factor in changing me into the man I want I become.”

The atmosphere is great, instructors are phenomenal and the people that go to train there are extremely fun to be around and are drama free. This dojo is very dear to my heart. Michael Donvito and Jason are by far one of the best instructors I’ve had in any sport. Mikey breaks down everything and teaches you in every way possible so you know the material and don’t get confused. Both instructors are extremely patient and will work with you in anything you might need help in. This place is judgment free and ego free. This dojo is the best place to learn this sport in the state of N.C. I love this sport because of the people that train me and I train with. Check it out!! You won’t regret it, I promise!”

post2 “This is a great Dojo for training! The instructors are very knowledgeable and approachable and provide an excellent curriculum. The kids absolutely love the class and sparring with all their friends. The kids classes definitely reinforce confidence. All the children have leadership opportunities each month to run the exercises in class. The material is perfect for the children’s age groups, and shows as the kids perform very well during tournaments. Following the kids class, I train in the adult class, with Mikey who has absolutely helped me achieve a deeper understanding of many techniques and concepts than I’ve been been exposed to during numerous years in grappling sports. The location and facility is a great environment to train and the times make it easy to always get to class.”

review1-compressor“MANC is a great place to learn BJJ in a relaxed but detail oriented setting. Every student is taught in a group class but with individual focused instruction with development and growth the main priority. Since joining MANC, the teaching style of BJJ and the family dynamic has made it a big part of my life. I would recommend MANC to anyone looking to learn BJJ or develop their game further.”– Dylan

post2 “I really cannot provide enough praise to Martial Arts of NC instructors and staff. I came into the gym a complete novice. I attended a free women’s class for both self-defense and BJJ. After seeing the environment and how patient the instructors were, I decided to sign up. At no point have I ever been made to feel inadequate or unwelcome due to my inexperience. One of the things I love the most is that everyone is drama free. It’s a really fun environment. The instructors, Mikey and Jason, are really great at breaking down the techniques and ensuring that everyone is getting the most out of each lesson. I would highly recommend anyone who is interested to come check out the gym!”
